Kamailio (OpenSER) 2007 Awards

Looking back to 2007, it was a fascinating year, that included two major releases, lot of new contributions and contributors, many events around the globe. So, I created my personal top of the people and things that had significant impact to OpenSER environment. I tried to be impartial (hehee…) and give credits to people or projects I do not interact directly. Each category got two winners, listed in alphabetic order.
Blogging

Related Projects

• OpenXCAP – the project developed by AG Projects comes to complete the tools you need to run services in SIMPLE Presence area. It’s working natively with OpenSER’s Presence server, I hope to see more SIP phone supporting SIMPLE extensions, considering that a solid ecosystem exists now on server side, and all is open source and free of charge. • SIPWise OpenSER Config Wizard – very nice web-based wizard that let you select from a set of services you want to run on your VoIP platform. With just few clicks you can build your own OpenSER config file, download and start OpenSER in a matter of minutes. Web link: http://www.sipwise.com

New contributions

• LDAP – the last important backend supported by OpenSER, the contribution from Christian Schlatter of University of North Carolina allows seamless integration in environments that relies on LDAP or Active Directory management systems. Web link: http://www.kamailio.org/docs/modules/devel/ldap.html
• Perl – you feel that OpenSER configuration language doesn’t not give the tools you need to be creative to your VoIP services? Get the Perl module, a contribution of Bastian Friedrich of Collax. Technical Support

• Adam Linford – The OpenSER’s web forum hosted by voipuser.org keeps growing and growing in postings and members. Taking a big responsibility of moderating the posts and answering lot of questions, Adam is the main driver there. Web link: http://www.voipuser.org
• Henning Westerholt – a year of many documentation improvements, mainly in database structure area, but also developing testing suite and running devel.openser.org site, Henning filled lot of pieces missing in OpenSER environment. Web link: http://devel.kamailio.org

Advocating

• James Body – Director of Research at Truphone, the UK mobile-VoIP operator. A veteran in VoIP and a charming fan of Open Source and OpenSER, he does not miss any occasion to show the power of the VoIP technologies he is using. His delightful and surprising presentations acquires the audience and highlights OpenSER’s capabilities. Web link: http://www.truphone.com
• Xavier Casajoana – CEO, Voztelecom. If there are companies using OpenSER at its best, one of them is Voztelecom. Contributing back to community the WeSIP Java SIP Servlet Application server and relying on OpenSER for all innovative products and services (MyVOZ, Oigaa), Voztelecom is keeping revealing to the word the true power of OpenSER. • ClueCon – a great gathering of high technical knowledge, from signaling to media stream mixing, from hardware manufactures to exotic VoIP applications. Web link: http://www.cluecon.com
• OpenSER Devel Meeting – the event hosted by INRIA in June 2007, Paris, France. A pleasant opportunity to meet other OpenSER developer and discuss about the project.
